CINEMA & FASHION PAVILION

CINEMA & FASHION PAVILION, BOLOGNA, ITALY [2018]

Fashion Research Italy and the Cineteca di Bologna requested a design for a new gallery exhibit to be hosted in a pavilion located in their lobby.

The ancient Greeks claimed to have determined that all things had a golden ratio for when they approached perfection. Ideal beauty is the most valued aspect of the fashion and film industries. This pavilion reinterprets the formal qualities of the golden section through its planar, sectional, and detail qualities in order to approach ideal beauty. 1448 identical laser-cut wooden panels are suspended from the ceiling using steel cables. The cables vary in length in order to position the panels according to the form derived from the golden section which in turn creates the cavernous volume for the exhibition. Some of the scales of the Snakeskin Pavilion have integrated light panels hosting prints on wrapped fabric to display the Starlettes. The shimmering snake skin hangs to envelop visitors and creates a unique volumetric experience for the exhibition.
